Larry Finney
Instrument Trumpet
Musical Background I grew up in Orange Park, Florida, and began playing the trumpet at the age of 11 when my dad brought home an old Conn Director. A year later I was playing in the high school marching band and concert bands. By age 15 I was playing in a garage band. That was in the late 60's and there were a lot of good horn bands on the radio, so an eight-piece dance band could find plenty of work playing teen dances and proms.
I received my BME from Jacksonville University in 1975 and continued playing full time. In 1986 I returned to school and earned my MM from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, and I got married the same year. In 1996 I moved to Memphis and three years later switched careers to become a web developer for the USPS.
Personal In 2002, I began playing the trumpet seriously again with the River City Concert Band. I joined the Memphis Knights in 2005, and it's been great.
